Have you seen "Invictus", the film by Clint Eastwood? Here's the poem Nelson Mandela gave François Pienaard, the captain of the South African national rugby team.
It was written by William Ernest Henley (1849-1903).


Out of the night that covers me,

In the fell clutch of circumstance

Thanksgiving

"Thanksgiving Day is a harvest festival. Traditionally, it is a time to give thanks for the harvest and express gratitude in general. (O dia de Acção de Graças é um feriado relacionado com as colheitas e o Outono. Tradicionalmente é um tempo para agradecer as colheitas e para expressar gratidão pelo que a vida nos oferece. Foi inicialmente celebrado no Canadá e nos Estados Unidos (...).
O 1º Dia de Acção de Graças terá acontecido na Plantação de Plymouth, em 1621. A celebração de Plymouth ocorreu nos primórdios da história numa das 13 colónias que se tornaram mais tarde nos Estados Unidos, transformando-se esta celebração numa parte do mito americano, por volta dos anos de 1800.
